measure is not seen as 3/4, rather 5/8
I've done all I can to add the 6th 1/8 note (want to add F#) to the end of measure two of this score. The note refuses to be added. I tried erasing the measure and re-creating it, googling for help. It insists that the measure is 5/8 long, not 6/8. Compare the screenshot of my composition with the screenshot of what I want.

You have probably accidentally used CTRL+Delete rather than just plain Delete. With CTRL the duration of the measure is shortened by the length of the note or rest you delete. Without, CTRL a rest is left behind. You can see a grey minus sign above the measure which indicates it is shorter than the nominal 3/4 duration.
To put the duration back, right click in an empty part of the measure and select measure properties in the pop up menu. Then set the actual duration to 3/4.

Thank-you for helping. I tried your suggestion and it worked.
Between the time I posted and the time I got your reply I deleted all measures (essentially starting over again) and found a 6/8 long measure instead of 5/8. I saw the grey minus sign above it. If I had googled "grey minus sign" instead of I may have come across the right answer.

The handbook is a good place to look. Here for example https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/measure-properties#measure-duration
Unfortunately the handbook is not very well indexed yet. I find it best to start at the Full Table of Contents page https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/full-table-contents and then use my browser's find within page function.
