Adjusting number of measures in each line
I'm trying to get 2 and a quarter pages down to just 2 pages and I want first to be able to control the number of measures in a line (and then the number of staves on a page). I tried shift/bracket with the selected measures in the screenshot, but the first click just compressed measure 38 a little and subsequent clicks did nothing (but they were stored somewhere because they were recognized by command Z undo). It's very easy to decrease the number of measures in a line by inserting a line break. Surely there must be some way to increase the number of measures too?

I'm sorry, this is not enough for me to understand. I tried something with scaling and it just made a mess. Thank god for command Z. Could you please take more time and be more explicit? Thanks.

Thanks. I must have reduced it too much before. Still a little disappointed that it affected the whole piece instead of just what was selected. I had to go back and redo some stuff, but anyway, it's two pages now.

It would look pretty ridiculous for a score to have different measures have different height, so that's why the normal scaling command doesn't do that. It's possible to force that using staff type change elements if you are creating some sort of experimental notation, but that wouldn't be appropriate here.
As for the more general question, think about fitting more versus fewer words on a line in a word processor. Fewer is easier - just hit Enter, same as in MuseScore. But more means using a smaller font size (which is basically what you just did) or decreasing the spacing of the characters (the equivalent of the stretch command) but at some point you can't overcome the laws of physics - you can't get more than a certain number of symbols on a line at a given size without overlap. You can try reducing the "Minimum note distance" in Format / Style / Measure, but chances are you wouldn't like the result of trying to force more than your picture shows, at that size.
