midi import issue
when importing a midi file I get a grand staff (treble + bass clef) for each instrument and I cannot find a way to switch to a single treble clef (see attachment)
I don't want to use the hide empty staves "trick" as this is definitely not a solution, just a trick indeed (actually I tried it and nothing happened)
also in the show midi import panel the only sound available is Grand Piano...

well, I had already tried to do that but the only options I see are all piano related (see screenshot)
indeed in the Sound column there's no way I can change Grand Piano to something else

Then please attach the MIDI file
After import, press "I" and delete one of the two staves in an instrument.

great, this made the trick.
I was assuming that I could only delete an instrument and not just a staff. thanks!
However, removing the bottom staff I am actually deleting a track... what I see as Piano, Piccolo (Grand Staff) is actually Piccolo and Flute, so If I delete the second staff I am deleting the Flute track, ouch.
I am now realizing that what I really need is to split the Grand Staff in two instruments.

I guess that the root of the problem is in musescore pretending those are (linked) piano tracks instead of just two instrument tracks.
is there a way to change this behavior?

It probably isn't MuseScore pretending something, but the MIDI file pretending this.

O.K., so before you delete that flute track, create a new instrument - maybe call it something like 'flute'. Copy/paste the needed content, then delete the unwanted staff..

This Midi file contains only instrument names, but no program-change messages.
That's why all channels are set to Piano (with the first instrument number according to the GM specification).

this piece does not us GM sounds but sample libraries so there are indeed no program-change messages.
still I don't understand why using Piano as a default...
it should be configurable IMHO

Likely because MuseScore parsing can not differentiate between the programchange value being 0 because there was nothing parsed and 0 is the default value for a number, or the programchange value being 0 because 0 was read.

Looks like lots of garbage to me, starts with 44 empty measures (except for lots of tempüo texts and only the last 4 measures are not empty.

that's beacuse I "cleaned" it as I cannot share the original piece for now,
I just left a few bars just to replicate the problems I was facing
