MU4 vs M3 differences - some of interest?!
There are several differences between MU4 and MU3. Some are minor, some are significant improvements, some are quirks, and some are omissions.
In MU3 there are two synthesizers - Fluid and Zerberus. These can be useful for loading up soundfonts.
In MU4 these appear to be missing, so the control over soundfonts and individual instruments within a soundfont library seems to have been lost.
Arguably Muse Sounds improve on the Basic sounds [though in some instances that's questionable], so perhaps there was a thought that this way of loading and controlling new sounds [from soundfont libraries] wouldn't be needed, yet there are many libraries which have interesting instrument samples in soundfont compatible formats [sf2, sf3 or even sfz].
MU4 does allow the use of MS Basic sounds, and sometimes these are useful. Has something been lost?

Zerberus, sfz, indeed has been removed, Fluid, sf2 and sf3, has not.

So does that mean there is no longer any support for sfz format files?

Exactly
Fluid is what olays MS Basic; it hasn't gone anywhere. What's temporarily lost is the ability to select individual sounds from within a soundfont, but that's easily overcome with split soundfonts like the one I provide in https://community.masteringmusescore.com/c/resources/ms-basic-individua…. The direct ability is to select from within soundfonts is expected in greatly improved form in 4.2.
Zerberus is gone, but VST support is added, so you can still access SFZ files with an appropriate VST plugin (eg, Sforzando).
Now of course, you can also play VST instruments directly, plus Muse Sounds. So tons more options than ever - and far better quality too.
