Melody and Chord Staffs Switch When Adding Violin
I made a treble staff with grand piano and then added chords which I assigned to Synth Strings 1. So far so good. Then I added a violin staff that also plays the melody on the chorus. During the chorus, however, the grand piano switches to chords and the Synth Strings 1 switches to melody. At the second verse, the grand piano is the melody and the Synth Strings 1 is the chords again. How can I keep the grand piano as the melody during the chorus?
If it matters, I copied the chorus melody from the grand piano into the empty violin staff, as opposed to adding the notes manually.

use 3 separate instruments,
hide systems as explained in this ms4 handbook chapter, it works on ms3 too https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/showing-staves-only-where-needed

Hiding the staff when there are no notes on it is a useful function, but it didn't solve the problem. Finally I deleted all of the notes in the violin staff and added them again manually. That did work. I guess I can't copy and paste to another staff.
