Entering Figured Bass

• Apr 15, 2018 - 12:35

Hello
I am trying to enter fingering tablature using Figured Bass text. I found the example, see the enclosed picture and the musescrore file.
In the picture, at the beginning, the upper line is empty.

How is it done, what invisible character is used to achieve an empty line P?

Apparently, the plugin solution did not convince you! :) https://musescore.org/en/node/271162
You absolutely want to use the Figured bass feature. As you have noticed, it is a dead end, at the least, if you want to use it alone.
From this however, one can imagine another workaround. With some suited settings, ie vertical offsets (and the adapted font in Style / Text, ie MuseScoreBC, size 9, for the "chords symbols")
And by using:
Ctrl + G ( figured bass) for one of the rows (P)
Ctrl + K (chords symbols) for the other row (T)
And, Ctrl + L (Odd lyrics) for the basses (BA) with a font as wished (here FreeSans). Needed here afterwards to move vertically down (all similar elements) via the Inspector: ie after entering the basses: 14,50

So: result with this method: example done.mscz
And the empty file (with suited settings) for testing: example empty.mscz

Hello cadiz1
I really appreciate your answers. Suggested approach could work. Plugin does not work for me as the pluging mark button number.
I need to mark finger number, I need to indicate which finger to use on the G and C row of my diatonic accordion (melodeon).
Here I enclose my sample Fingering.mscz file, where I use Figured Bass text for right hand fingering and Chord symbols for left hand.

What I would like to do is to get rid of those useless dots in G and C row. I do not know how is that done in that file example.mscz.

Well, I have a little trouble following you. You attach two totally different files now in the content and the display.
"Here I enclose my sample Fingering.mscz file, where I use Figured Bass text for right hand fingering and Chord symbols for left hand."
Sure? You already use Ctrl + K (chords symbols) for the Bass, above the notes of the first staff, so no.

In fact, you always seem to have this fixed idea of using only the Figured bass feature. And if I understand correctly, the "useless dots" you're talking about are the result of your attempt to lock the symbols/fingerings on both sides of the single line.
It works, it's an idea. And the dots are not so embarrassing.
We could consider other settings. But I do not know what to say for the moment, this display is not common (for me, at least), and you really seem to try to find your own way.

Hello cadiz1

I really appreciate your patient with me :-).
As you can see in the file example.mscz they also use the Figured bass text.
So, simply my question is: How do they do it in the file example.mscz, so that they have blanks (no useless dots) in the first line of Figured Bass text?
What is the trick?

In that example, each "column" of P/T/BA is just a single element which is added in the P line.
Then the text for those has been edited (double click it) so that each elements contains 5 text lines, P is entered on line 1, T on line 3, BA on line 5. To leave P "empty" simply don't write any text on that line but directly enter/return to the next line.

Hello jeetee
Your suggestion:
To leave P "empty" simply don't write any text on that line but directly enter/return to the next line.

Well, this does not work for me on the file Fingering.mscz.

Please, try my file Fingering.mscz and make the line C empy (because I did not manage to make it empty, I used dots as a substitute for blanks).
So, please, try my file Fingering.mscz and let me know what is wrong with it.
