Upgrade Musescore

• Apr 17, 2018 - 17:42

Not sure how to upgrade without installing a second version.
Indeed, when clicking on the link for upgrade, a pop-up asks for 'downloading' and a button 'Save' ...
I only want to upgrade the version I have.

Second, not sure also what to do with the existing scores ?

Thanks for advise.

What OS? Coming from what version?

On Windows installing 2.2.1 (and taking the default options) will replace any older 2.x version, whith keeping all the old settings.
It won't overwrite any 1.x version, but peacefully coexist with that.

All 2.x scores will continue to work.

Thanks a lot for swift reply.

Musescore 2 (2.0 I guess).
Windows 7 pro

My point is that I definitely do not want versions to coexist.
The question is how to make sure that only an upgrade of the one that is already installed is being performed, That's exactly the issue: avoid an (extra) 'installation' and perform an 'upgrade' only.

So, what to do to be 100% sure to do an upgrade instead of installing ... ?

Best regards,

Benoit
PS: fine to learn that no file conversions will be necessary for 2.x scores !

To be 100% sure... you can perform this check:
In Windows, open Control Panel and you will find all the programs installed on your computer. If multiple versions of MuseScore are installed, they will be listed here where they can be uninstalled.

Regards.

To be clear, the process of updating does indeed normally involve downloading the installer file and saving it to some place on your drive (typically a folder called Downloads although that's really between you and your OS or browser - MuseScore doesn't control this or care). The installer file is then "run" to update MuseScore. When you're done you will have only the new version of MuseScore on your computer. The installer will still be in your Downloads folder, and from what I understand it should actually be left there as it can help if you later uninstall or do another update.

None of this is specific to MuseScore - it's how program updates work in general, at least on Windows.
