Need to uninstall?
If I am downloading the new MuseScore version, 0.9.6.2, would I need to uninstall the previous version that I have on my computer, which is 0.9.6?
If I have to, then could it be possible for the next version of MuseScore to have an uninstall-the-previous-version feature?
Windows 7, MuseScore version 0.9.6

Just a correction, I am using XP.
It is indeed -always- advised to uninstall the previous software, but if you don't, it won't cause problems.
There is already an open issue to address this request: #6202: Automatic uninstall of previous musescore installation

Perhaps people are hesitant to uninstall because they fear losing customizations (e.g., to the palettes or assignment of keyboard shortcuts).
Does that happen? Or is such information stored in a location on one's hard drive that's unaffected by uninstalling?

Preferences, palettes etc... are not removed by the uninstall process (on mac and windows)

You just resurrected an 8 years old thread.
Revert to factory settings as per the handbook

I know how to reset the factory settings, but is their a way to delete the source from witch MuseScore takes the information ?

Uninstalling removes the application itself, which is where MuseScore getss the defaults from. Depending on your OS and how you installed it and what your goal is, you may also want to remove the installer itself (eg, the MSI you downloaded for Windows).

But when I remove the installer, the settings come back when I re-download it.

The default settings? Yes, of course, that's the whole meaning of the word default. If you mean your personal settings, as mentioned, to reset those, use Help / Revert to Factory Settings, no need to uninstall.
