I can't play pizz
When I type pizz and then right click and go to staff text properties the only option I have is normal, there is no pizz or tremolo.

Cello, viola and violin. It worked when I was working on it months ago, but now that I've reopened it there is no longer any option for tremolo or pizz.

Anything unusual about how this score was created? MusicXML or MIDI import, perhaps? Looks like somehow the channel info is missing. Anyhow, if you right click a staff, Staff Properties, and Change Instrument (to the same instrument again, that fixes it.

Some how the actual instruments appear to have been changed to piano (I'm guessing due to the instrument ranges). To fix this, right click each staff, choose staff properties and click the "Change Instrument" button on the left in the middle and select the same instrument it already is. This will add the mixer channels needed for the extra playing modes (i.e. pizz.)
Attach your score so we can see what you did.
It sounds as if you are following the correct procedure. You should be seeing options for Normal, Pizz and Tremolo strings. Have you selected the voice (1-4) to apply the effect? Have you successfully created pizzicato parts before?
As a side question to the musescore gurus, is this one of the controls that will be moved to the Inspector in v. 3.0?

I suspect she didn't use an instrument that has those channels. A violin would, a piano won't, a trumpet would have different ones. Hence my question at which instrument and Mike's question for the score.
So far this hasn't changed for 3.0
