Measure Numbering when Using Repeats

This would seem to be a simple thing but I just have not been able to figure it out.

If I have a score with repeat barlines so that the first four measures repeat (for example), I would like the fifth visible measure (the one following the closing repeat barline) to be numbered as measure 9, since that's what it "really" is. Or maybe there's a way to click on a measure number and manually change it so that the numbering starts from a new number at that point forward?

There are two reasons this would be helpful -- avant garde work, and also when exporting a standard midi file which is then pulled into a DAW. In the latter case the DAW's measure numbering immediately goes out of sync with the score as soon as the repeat begins, by the number of repeated measures, and this gets cumulative throughout the score.
