can't input notes for unpitched percussion
Using Win10 and latest updated Musescore, the program does not allow me to input any notes. I have read the how to and searched the forum. The only problem report that resembled my situation was for an un-updated version. Mine says it has the latest. I selected unpitched percussion, select note input, select a dotted eighth not and get an elongated cursor. It shows a (blue) note when I move it onto the sheet, but will not input the note.

Most likely you neglected to click the specific note you want in the drum input window at the bottom of the screen. MuseScore won't enter a drum note if you don't tell it which kind of note you want to enter. As mentioned, be sure to read the actual Handbook section on drum notation, as other articles you find may well be out of date.
