Tablature String Configuration: Open vs. Fretted Pitch
In the Staff Properties of a tablature staff, click the Edit String Data... button at the bottom of the dialog.
Here, and in the instrString structure in libmscore/stringdata.h, the pitches (tunings) of the instrument's strings are configured and stored. I don't understand why there is a boolean (checkbox) for toggling between "Open" and "Fretted". Isn't the whole point here to define the pitches of the open strings?
Or is this something for instruments that have drop-pitch pseudo-frets instead of the nut (fret #0) on the bottom string?
What is the intended purpose here?

For fretted strings the pitch is the lowest possible one, the highest defines by the number of frets. For open strings the pitch is the only one
There are instruments that have both, some lutes for example

OK. I understand. The "open" pitches are strings with no frets. You can pluck them, or they simply vibrate "sympathetically". I've seen some electric guitars like that too.
