Chord symbols with flats (Bb7, i.e.) are widely spaced apart
Spacing of text elements changes when I enter a flatted chord symbol. No problem with other chords. How can I fix this?

Choose a different font for the chord symbols. Try Edwin.

Free Serif should work too. Times New Roman won't, IIRC
Possibly you entered it as "B♭7" instead of "Bb7" . You should use a regular "b" and not a "♭" to indicate a flat in chord symbols.
