Either start with an instrument that uses a grand staff (piano, organ) or add a 2nd staff to an existing part, add the curly brace and connect the barlines.
Go to Edit / Instruments, select the existing staff, click "Add staff". This adds the second staff throughout the score. Then add your notes. When you are done, go to Style / General and turn on "Hide empty staves", nd now the second staff will show only where needed.
This doesn't quite work. When have a treble clef and you add a clef, it adds a bass clef, but, it doesn't connect the the two clefs even though there is a bracket at the end. The notes that should automatically appear on the bass clef don't.
Plus when I created this setup in my DAW I had two clefs. One for the piano and lyrics, and two clefs for the handbells. When I exported the midi and then imported it into Musescore, It merged both handbell clefs into one clef, and it also transposed the whole handbell score in various places down an octave.

Welcome.
Add a piano, harp or most organs to the score.

How do you "add a 2nd staff to an existing part"? I want to be able to switch from grand or double staff to single staff on the same sheet.

Not sure why you tagged this on to a 5 year old thread. I believe your problem is quite different. I can't tell from images. We need a score.
