Extraneous whole rests
When I input notes for SATB, there is an extraneous whole rest on every measure. How do you get rid of these?

Could you attach here your score?
It's probably because you are using voices 3&4 for the TB staff. Always start with voice 1 then voice 2 and you will never get "extraneous" rests. You can use Tools->Voices to swap voice 1 & 3, then swap voice 2 & 4 the get rid off all of the extraneous rests.

I am using voices 3 and 4 for tenor and bass. I always start with voice 1 for sopranos and voice 2 for altos. How else would I do it? Thanks for your reply!

Use voice 1 & 2 on the top staff for S & A, voice 1 & 2 on the bottom staff for T & B. Every staff gets up to four voices, and you should always start with voices 1 & 2.. Voices 3 & 4 almost never are needed by might be useful if you are trying to write SSATB on only two staves

Not so, Mike320! I just got to the end of notating a grand staff: voices 1,2,3 went perfectly. Voice 4 retained whole rests in every measure. Nothing fancy - just a 4/4 hymn. Angels_we_have_heard_on_high 4-part.mscz

Beginner's mistake (and there are no voice 4 rests in that score, just voie 1 rests), as explained earlier in this thread don't use voice 3 and 4 in the 2nd staff, but 1 and 2. See also https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/voices
But after swapping voices you still need to delete the excess voice 3 and 4 rests
Attached score corrected accordingly
